To provide oxygen to the tissues – The iron present in the hemoglobin binds to oxygen called as oxyhemoglobin molecule. This oxygen is then released at various sites in the body.
To collect carbon dioxide from the body – RBC collect co2 from cells and transport it to the lungs for exhalation.
