WHAT IS GRAM SABHA?

Gram sabha is the constituitional body of village administration. It works under the gram panchayat. Basically gram sabha is the meeting conducted by the sarpanch of that village. In that meetings, all the adult voters of the village will be present discussing the village issues, development and approves plans for village development.

Meetings of the gram sabha

The gram sabha should conduct gram sabha at least twice a year. There can be 3 to 4 meetings a year if needed. This meeting is essential so as to question the government and check the status of work in villages.

This meeting is attend by villagers and questions the sarpanch and other members about their issues. Raises village problem and peoples need.

Importance of Gram Sabha

Gram sabha is very important as it keeps the individual people involved in village governance directly. It also ensures the accountability from the sarpanch and administration body.

Villagers can directly involved in the administration, suggest their opinion and share their thoughts. It increases trust in the system from the people.

Example, if the village needs a road that connect it to highway for easy transportation and business purpose, then people will raise this issue in gram sabha, people will approve it and then gram panchayat will arrange funds for it and complet the program.
